Nacon has been bringing Tour de France to the PS5 annually for a while now, but it’s always been a low-budget affair.
With the latest iteration, however, developer Cyanide has really invested in the visuals – and it shows.
Tour de France 2025 features massively overhauled presentation on the PS5, leveraging the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5. Unlike many graphics comparisons videos these days, you can easily see the improvements in this side-by-side trailer.
In addition to greater tree density, improved grass, and higher resolution assets, the entire title has received a massive lighting upgrade which totally transforms the image. It really is an incredible upgrade when you see it presented like this.

Of course, the cycling gameplay will still be an acquired taste.
These titles are much more tactical than your typical racing game, as they focus more on stamina management than anything else. If you’re looking for an experience a little out of the ordinary, though, it might be worth giving it a go.
The title’s due out on 5th June, and we can’t think of anything else important that’s happening on that day.

would love to get into this, just two tired
The graphics overhaul is huge, it’ll make a wheel difference
@Hyena_socks @NonbinaryStarr On yer bike, you two!
Not quite the confines of your typical sports field. These guys cover some serious country any given day I wonder what the surrounds are like
Probably the largest graphics update i've seen. Lighting is a massive game changer here. But lets be frank the PS4 version looks more like a mobile game at time with that flat lighting and horrendous pop-in.
Fixed that Shadow bug at last
It's going to sound weird but this paired with a peddle exerciser (half an exercise bike so your hands are free) would be great. I did it before when doing very repetitive farming in games, my friends in chat were asking 'what's that noise?' they'd hear whoosh ..whoosh ..whoosh. Nacon is a studio I like to support so I might actually pick this up.
The crowd animations are kinda of stiff and the trees look overly fluffy, but yeah, some of it does look actually photorealistic.
@GirlVersusGame Well you don't have to hold the handlebars on an exercise bike, but I guess the seats aren't that comfortable so there's that too. I've done it quite a bit with games too - like you said, it's better with more mindless stuff because I find you tend to stop pedaling if you're doing something really focused like a Dark Souls boss. I tried it with my treadmill too but that's just an accident waiting to happen. 😂
@Matroska Nice to meet you! I thought I was the only one who did that. It's great when you don't want to feel absolutely lazy for sinking hours and hours into a game. I fell off a treadmill trying that, so you dodged a bullet there.
@GirlVersusGame Ouch! Yeah, it felt like it was just a matter of time before I fell off. I actually walked while watching the LotR trilogy - I ended up walking 38 miles. Though my treadmill has this annoying thing where the timer only goes up to 99 minutes and then rather than simply stopping counting the time, it turns off. When it first did that I nearly walked off it into the TV. So yeah exercise bikes are way safer, lol.
I'm gonna be facing an uphill battle to try this when released as I have mountains of games to get through (excuse the puns)but it looks so much better now than on last gen
YouTube comment says they removed the shadows in the 2024 version for this comparison video to make the 2025 improvement look more significant. Is that true?
